2013 is upon us, question is, are we ready for it? Unless we are prepared, we will start the new year the way we always do- with great zeal and the best of intentions, soon the novelty will wear off and we will go through life the same way we always have- uninspired, unmotivated and unchanged. Let’s not waste another year with an old mentality, a poor self-esteem and a bad attitude.
I took the decision that I am not going to be one of those people who ask, ‘What does the new year have in store for me?’ As we approach 2013, may we be daring enough to ask, ‘What do I have for 2013?’ It’s all about our vision.
If we don’t know where we are going, how will we know when we get there? We can only go as far as we can see. If you haven’t already thought about it, this is the time to ponder this question, What is my vision for 2013?
Vision means you know where you are headed and you are not just “going with the flow”. Vision requires focus, commitment and discipline. We need to be mature enough to realize that there will be challenges along the way but we must persevere (the will to go on when the going gets tough).
Steve Jobs (co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc) trusted his vision even when nobody else was seeing what he was seeing. He put all of his effort behind his vision and held nothing back. There are plenty of excuses he could have used: he was adopted, dropped out of school, no one believed in him, but he remained focused and in so doing, he made Apple one of the world’s most admired companies.
Helen Keller spent most of her life blind and deaf but overcame great obstacles and became one of the most admired women in the world. She did not use her lack of sight and as an excuse to live an average life. How many of us are still mopping around because our first attempt at business failed or someone we trusted betrayed us, or a relationship we were counting on failed…? We cripple ourselves by holding on to things that didn’t work, moreover, things we had no control over.
Because of her determination, I believe, though Helen Keller could not see, she opened the eyes of many. Including mine.
2013 promises to be a great year, many opportunities lie ahead, many books to be published, songs to be written and sung, many businesses will succeed, many people will be empowered by us, many lives will be enriched through us…if we hold on to our vision.
For me, 2013 is my year of abundance; in life, in love and in business. I’m currently busy growing the Body Sensations brand (our very own cosmetics range), and in 2013, I’d like to see our soap, our bath oil, our body butter, our perfume and all the products we make selling better than ever. So go on, and place an order.
I am ready to defy the odds and do the impossible. What is your excuse?
How far can you see?
Where there is no vision, the people perish.
– Proverbs 29:18
Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old habits.
“The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight, but has no vision.”
— Helen Keller
“I don’t know what would have happened to me if I hadn’t been able to hear.”
– Ray Charles
“Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn’t mean he lacks vision.”
– Stevie Wonder
I want the world to be better because I was here.
– Will Smith
Average people look for ways of getting away with it; successful people look for ways of getting on with it.
– Jim Rohn
