Some days feel like you’re standing still and not making any progress at all. You look at everyone around you and you’re overwhelmed with FOMO (fear of missing out). It seems as though everyone has something going on in their lives, except you. What is missing? What more can be done? When will it happen? How long will it take? When you find yourself asking these questions, slow down. Don’t be fooled by motion, just because there is movement doesn’t always mean you’re headed in the right direction. Here’s a humbling truth that I discovered recently: sometimes progress looks like waiting. And some people mistake waiting for doing nothing, when in fact waiting means getting your attitude right for what you’re waiting for. Waiting tests your faith and challenges you to believe in your dream when there’s little or no evidence that anything will come of your efforts. When you have done all you know how to do, just wait and trust that what is meant for you will find you. I know that sounds absurd because we live in a world of instant gratification and yes there are times when you have to cease the moment, but more often than not, what is required of us is patience.
Patience develops our character. Patience keeps us in the game long enough to face hardship and opposition without being discouraged or disheartened. The problem with skipping steps or taking the short route is that when we finally get what we want, we are unable to sustain it because our characters are found wanting– we have not been truly tested. The crown becomes too heavy and will not rest on a head that has not known hardship, opposition, testing.
Sometimes the best plans are a result of patience. Don’t be in a rush to get to the end of your dream, you will find that the best part is the journey, enjoy it all.
