If you bump into Nono Cele anytime of the day you would think she just stepped out of a magazine cover. Beautiful, smart and confident, Nono Cele is the epitome of a very poised, vibrant, and ambitious young woman.
From a very young age Nono knew she was destined for greatness and it was all thanks to her beloved parents for their inspiration, love, support and their dedication to shaping this unique individual.
“My parents have always made it perfectly clear to me that I was put on earth to do great things and it was up to me to discover what those great things were,” she beams as she lovingly speaks about her parents who are also her role models and friends.
Nono has three siblings, two older brothers and one younger, but she is no silent middle child. “I can be very loud, especially when I’m in the company of my family members. We tease each other, we make each other laugh, we bring out the best in each other,” she adds.
But growing up with boys wasn’t always easy, it was then that Nono learnt to stand her ground. “When they push you, you’ve got to push back, you can’t just cry or go tell mom. Make your voice heard, otherwise they won’t respect you,” she recalls some life lessons from her childhood. Two decades later, this fearlessness and ability to stand up for what she believes in has left Nono in a good stead as she is able to compete with the who’s who in the television industry.
The fun and bubbly Nono brightens up the room with her presence and she has brought this personality to her work. Playing TV producer in the world of sports for the past 7 years has kept this young lady busy behind the scenes. She has produced various magazine shows for Multichoice and directed numerous live events for SuperSport International. But that’s not all she does, Nono loves to travel, meeting new people and giving back to the community by visiting schools and empowering young minds. 2014 saw her traveling as far as Ireland (Dublin) to be part of the One Young World Summit where young leaders across the globe gathered to share their stories and brainstorm ideas on making the world a better place. “I’m so proud to be involved in projects that not only inspire me but also challenge me to add value to the world we live in,” she says.
Nono also enjoys blogging and writing and has recently took on a task to write a book based on her life lessons and journey as a young woman behind the scenes. “I am very excited about my book; I believe in us telling our stories– we have to make our mark. I have been working on it [the book] for a while now, it’s something I have always wanted to do. I’m calling it “Behind The Scenes: The Nono Cele Story”. I am grateful for the encouragement I have received from loved ones to pursue this life-long dream.”
Nono is also pursuing a teenage dream of having her own cosmetics range. Her elegant range includes products such as body butter, soap, perfume, bath salt, foam bath etc. Her cosmetics range is called it Salt & Light by Nono Cele. She explains how this idea came about, “A while ago, I had an idea to start my own skincare line, but I talked myself out of it because I thought it was silly and I wouldn’t know where to start. But my mother didn’t let me get away with that kind of self-demeaning thinking. In 2013 I revisited the idea and decided to do something about it. It has not been easy to balance work, studies and a new business but I am enjoying the challenge. I am learning a lot about what it takes to make dreams a reality—perseverance. Salt & Light has given me a reason to push myself beyond the comfort zone. I am growing as a leader and working towards financial freedom. While I love being a broadcaster, my ambitions extend beyond the media space. I want to change lives, empower others whilst challenging myself to be the best version of myself I can be. I believe that we would be happier individuals if we learnt to run our own race at our own pace and used every talent given to us.”
Speaking passionately about her desire to make a difference in the lives of young people, Nono comments, “The worst thing that I can do with my life is to make it all about me. I believe I was put on this earth for a purpose bigger than myself. If I can help one struggling teenager, empower one young woman, or positively impact the life of one child, boy or man, then I would’ve lived a life of significance. I have made so mistakes, I’ve missed the mark numerous times and I have fallen flat on my face many times before so that the next generation shouldn’t have to, my scars can be their lessons.”
What stands out about Nono Cele is that she is her own person and filters this through to her surroundings. She is not afraid to speak her mind, she gracefully oozes confidence, she’s deeply rooted in joy and has a strong sense of who she is.
This jack of all trades doesn’t just love TV, traveling, fashion, family and writing but is an avid soccer fan. When not working, she enjoys catching up on various leagues.
“Having grown up with boys, sport became part of my every-day life,” she adds.
This vibrant young woman takes her relationship with God very seriously, referring to it as “the most important relationship of all.”
Ambitious, passionate, confident, beautiful and elegant, Nono Cele is a young woman destined for greatness. What’s next for this extraordinary individual, perhaps her own TV Show or media house? The possibilities are endless for this Queen.
